Wedding @ the Equinox

wedding,the Equinox
photo by KC Wong of Grey Matter

From the Bride...
"Dear Kewei,

Hope you're well.
We should have sent this sooner!
Wanted to say a big "Thank You". Our guests loved the performance and so did (my husband) and I.
Dawn and Matthew certainly did a great job to make the evening a very memorable one!"

***

Something about the cityscape never fails to put a sparkle in my eye. Way above the sea of lights, the hustle of a Friday night in Singapore is muted by the clear glass walls on the 70th floor at the Equinox. The world twinkled at our feet as our couple celebrated their wedding day with their closest friends and family. How’s that for romantic!

The order for the night was a 2 pc combi featuring Matthew on keys and myself on vocals. For the couple’s march-in, Matthew arranged a medley of the Wedding March and Canon in D by special request. We then proceeded to play an even mix of popular English and Mandarin love songs to set the mood.

In between our sets, Matthew and I soaked up the peaceful scene in the adjacent dining area. I can only imagine how amazing it must have been for our lovely couple! Thank you for the pleasure of bringing joy to your guests on your special day :)

xoxo,
Dawn

Eugene & Pauline's Wedding @ Swissotel Stamford

I have been to Swissotel Stamford a number of times but it still strikes me with its wonderful high ceiling and beautiful mood lighting, with 70 tables all laid out beautifully.

August was on the grand piano, Kewei & I on vocals, nothing seems more perfect! I want to thank Eugene & Pauline for allowing me to share this beautiful evening with them and I know they will remember it beautifully as well.

It was the 1st time August was playing with the band and we were really surprised by his showcase, creating fusions during the bridges of songs and making each song sound so full even when the only instrument that was being played is the Grand Piano, Kewei & I performed a whole list of songs chose by the couple like ; Forever Love, L-O-V-E, 爱很简单, Girl from Ipanema, Sunday Morning, 天天想你/五月天, 家后 etc.

The 1st march in was accompanied with 'I Only Wanna be With You' by Vonda Shepard where the bride and groom marched in beautifully and gracefully. And for their re-entry Kewei sang Fallen by Lauren Wood.

There were many song dedications we received, claps from audiences and also people who approached the band for photos, I was really happy to have been a part of this big night, Eugene and Pauline look so beautiful together =)

I am really happy to be able to perform with Grand Piano being the instrument which was my 1st, and to share the evening, I can only say I know that Eugene & Pauline will be Forever in Love =)

Yours Truly,
Leon Lim

Sms from Karen the next day:

Hi Kewei,

Thank you very much for your awesome performance at our wedding.
All our guests had a great time especially my dad's friends :)

Karen

Karen's parents' friends were exceptionally appreciative!
They applauded after each song and I definitely felt like an oldies jukebox!

Our signature dedication slips! (photographer by Karen later)

花月佳期 by Anita Mui, also The Wedding by Julie Rogers, is a new addition to my repertoire that always strikes a chord with the older generation - and I specially played that as requested by 大姑妈, and were promptly showered by their kind generosity in the form of angpaos!

But Karen and Kanny were just more than happy to keep their guests entertained!

I also specially learnt Anita Mui's 亲密爱人for them and played it in bossa nova style :)

Also met Marc and Caron, whose wedding I sang for 2 years ago!
In fact it was ever since their wedding, that Karen decided that we were to be her wedding band!

When Marc came up to me, I immediately recalled his name and his wife's! Sometimes I think I have super-power memory! It was great catching up with them!

Thanks Karen and Kanny for your warm hospitality,
wishing you more happy days ahead! :)

Gillan & Kelly's Wedding @ Swissotel Stamford Canning Ballroom

Subject: Thank you, and more thank you!

Hello Kewei,

This is the Yeo couple here. :) We just wanna thank you for the beautiful music on our wedding (27 Feb). All our guests were full of praises for your band. We even had a few of our engaged friends asking about your band’s contact. Hope it will bring more biz to you guys. :)

Also, thank you specially for singing Le Festin during the 1st dish presentation. We love the way you made it your song, even though you were hesitant to sing it initially. Thank you so much. An even bigger thank you for the beautiful portrayal of “You are still the one”. The song meant a lot to us, and it was simply magical to walk down the aisle with your singing.

Lastly, thank you for entertaining our guests with the song dedications. Our wedding was definitely made special by your band. Keep on spreading love with your music!

Cheers!
Gillan & Kelly

p.s. here are some pretty pics of the night. Thanks for wearing red to suit our theme. You guys look gorgeous!

Gillan and Kelly booked myself long ago, after hearing my set at Indochine Waterfront :)
They put in so much effort in their wedding, I felt extra special to be part of their big day!
And I must say this: Kelly you are gorgeeoeooouuusss!!!

Firstly it was a themed Gala Red Carpet Affair, so we dressed for the theme!

Trusty Live Studios also had a live feed of photos on projector screens,
and guests could sign on their polaroids digitally and print them out on the spot!

Gillan and Kelly also designed their own personalised dedication cards, even though we prepared our Yours Truly brand of dedication slips for them :)

They were the sweetest - they also created a special tribute for their parents:
collage of their photos of their early dating years, to marriage, to their blissful family life
:)
*melts into a puddle*

It was a first for me, and I am going to steal their idea for my own wedding! haha...

Their good friend gamely sang Sway for their 1st March In, and
they selected Le Festin from Ratatouille as their 1st Dish Song!

This was an interesting suggestion for me, and I thought it was PERFECT.

The arrangement of the music, the soaring voices, the authentic French ambience it created for the feast to come was droolsome!

And yes, as Gillan and Kelly mentioned, I was hesitant to sing it at first because I didn't think just the piano and I could bring out the feel of the song - plus the French was quite a mouthful!

But I learnt it in the end, and am glad it worked! :)

Photobucket

Kelly dedicated a special song 不了情to her friend Yunjing, "who sang this to me even before any guys did!"
and to my pleasant surprise Yunjing replied with a request for 新不了情,"which we will sing for the next 15 years to come..."

It made the gesture of song dedication extra special, and it made my night as a wedding singer :)

thank you so much gillan and kelly, the yeo couple!
you have made my job such a pleasure, and i thank you for inspiring me again on how beautiful a celebration a wedding dinner can be :)

you have been the sweetest, and i'm glad to have been part of your big day, thank you for allowing me to be part of it! :)

Chin Aik and Boon Hui's Wedding @ Swissotel

Photobucket
Jon Lim on Sax
Ein on Keys
Kexin on vox

Happy Nui Year!
Thanks for wedding band trios!
They had put up an excellent performance and I had received many positive responses from our guests!
We really like the 2nd March-In Song which Kexin had sang, it's very moving and lovely! Please thank them all on our behalf! =D

Boon Hui

I have to say, Boon Hui is easily one of the prettiest bride i've ever seen!
The bold yellow puffy gown and her fantastic figure speaks for themselves!

Cheeky Chin Aik spoke of giving his pretty wife "a good one tonight.....
I mean massage laaa."
LOL.
and Jon was infinitely amused by his joke.

Coincidentally, Jon also gave his "wife" a good one.... I mean his saxophone laa..
It was a SAXY solo of an andy lau classic - 你是我的女人 :)

I also specially learnt the song You Are My Angel (theme song from TVB Series 法證先鋒!) for their 2nd march-in :)

Photobucket
I was approached by a table of youngsters for a picture after our sets ended!

Photobucket
Caught in Candid :) Everyone looked so happy!

Cheers to Chin Aik's warmth towards the band
and to the table of darlings that made my day!

Special thanks to our own Jon and Liang Sia for the photos :D

Sharon & Roy's Wedding @ Swissotel The Stamford

Dawn on Vox, Ein on Keys

The appreciative audience at Sharon & Roy’s wedding truly made the night special. Dedication slips that were passed around the tables were painstakingly decorated with angels and hearts, and well wishes flowed in all through the night (especially from a very enthusiastic Table 19 who very sportingly called themselves the table of Uncles and Aunties!).

We loved doing the song requests by the different tables, with the crowd particularly enjoying nostalgic numbers like “Sometimes When We Touch”, “但愿人长久”, and “Eternal Flame”. And because we wanted to include as many of the couple’s favourite songs, we also turned duets like “I Cross My Heart”, “今天你要嫁给我” and “梁山伯与茱丽叶” into solo songs.

What blew me away, however, was the groom’s touching rendition of David Tao’s “爱很简单” with Ein Ein providing keyboard accompaniment. Roy was really, really nervous but completely determined to pull it off because that is his new wife’s favourite song. I was moved to tears during the rehearsal that happened just before the guests were let in, and Sharon was the perfect picture of a blushing bride when Roy took to the mic in front of all their family and friends.

There’s nothing like a personal touch to make your big day even more memorable. For Sharon & Roy, I’m sure they will have this, and many more wonderful memories together.

Thanks for having us be part of your wedding!

xx.Dawn
